When to Visit Kruger National Park?
This is a good question, although Kruger National Park is excellent year round, the best time of course depends on what you want to see and experience. Kruger National Park has two main seasons, the dry season and then the green season. Both these seasons have their own appeal the drier months provide better game viewing and dramatic landscapes, while the green season offers lush scenery, abundant birdlife and heat.
Dry Season (May to September)
The dry season is considered the classic safari season, and for good reason. With the vegetation thinned out and the grass a bit sparse, animals are easier to spot as they gather around waterholes and rivers, making finding the big 5 and predators much easier. The cooler mornings and golden evening light also makes for amazing photos.
Green Season (October to April)
The rains clouds start showing themselves in October, with the first heavy rains usually falling in November. With the rains comes the birds, migrants from Europe and intra-African migrants following the rain. In January and February the park is alive with baby animals, but the rains can get a bit hectic, with some roads, rivers becoming impassable. But the park is still open and the animals are still here.
