The KRUGER Experience

I have been going on safari in Kruger National Park ever since my mind came to be, I've done selfdriving with the parents, I guided in Kruger for some time and even joined a few safaris. And from them all, the best experiences were the trips where we stayed inside Kruger National Park rest camps. To me, this is the true Kruger experience, being able to wake up inside the Kruger rest camps and you start your safari in the early hours of the day.

With this in mind we will be able to slow things down and have a look at all things, and not have to rush from area to area in search of animals because we will have to get back to the gate closest to your accommodation.

Most safaris in Kruger National Park try to find the big five and this becomes the main objective. Now I know many visitors come here to see them, but if you have more time in the park itself, finding the five becomes more of an extra activity rather than the safari itself.

Why staying INSIDE Kruger Park matters

Staying inside Kruger National Park gives you access to areas in the Park that have a good concentration of animals, and generally you have a window of quietness before the day visitors arrive.

Many times, people don't want to stay in the Kruger accommodation as it can be a bit dated, but SANparks have recently started revamping their bungalows. It will still be some time before the entire park is done, but even in its classic state staying inside Kruger bungalows is timeless.

Inside the park, you experience that calming effect that the Kruger can give, when there is no sound of an engine, music and modern technology. I love the fact that some places the internet is generally not good, and this allows you to break away from the things that disctract you from the natural world.

A day on SAFARI in Kruger

Every day has something different to offer once you leave gates in the morning. But everyday starts with a coffee and some rusks as we listen to the bush waking up around us. With the sun sneaking over the horizon we leave the rest camp on the open safari vehicle and start our day, no queues, because we are already on safari inside Kruger National Park.

Your guide is usually wide awake in the early hours, so if he heard lions roaring or something interesting during the night we might go and see if we can find it.

The mornings are some of the most important hours in the bush. The light is beautiful, the animals are active and, by staying inside the park, we can make the most of those early hours before the outside crowds arrive.

As the day warms up, we look for diurnal animals, read tracks and pay attention to the smaller details that are easy to miss when you're rushing from one sighting to the next.

Around 11 o'clock, we'll find a quiet place to stop for a picnic and take a short break before continuing our day.

There is no need to know exactly what we will find. That's part of the excitement. We listen, we look, we track, and we see what Kruger brings us.

From the moment he picked us from the airport to the moment he dropped his off, he was pleasant, knowledgeable, friendly and just so very welcoming. He is a wonder at spotting the animals in their natural habitat and so so knowledgeable. Every trip out tino the bush was something different. Our days were well planned out but with the option to change anything as we wanted. The food was spectacular. An absolutely amazing trip! South Africa, you stole our hearts (again). We had another absolutely amazing experience with Eugene and his team! Spending two weeks exploring Kruger on a private safari was truly the trip of a lifetime. Eugene has an incredible connection with the bush and an amazing eye for spotting wildlife. We were lucky enough to see not only the Big 5, but also some incredibly rare sightings, including pangolins in two different areas and a serval cat! Some of our favorite moments were being the only vehicle around, giving us the chance to take it all in and enjoy these unforgettable encounters without the crowds. And the experience didn’t end when we returned to camp. Every evening, Eugene’s team treated us to incredible gourmet meals that were the perfect ending to each day. You know the food is something special when you’re out on your morning game drive already wondering what’s on the dinner menu! If you’re considering a private safari in Kruger, I can’t recommend Eugene and his team enough. Having all the accommodations, meals, and transfers taken care of made everything so easy and seamless. Eugene is also incredibly responsive, helpful, and happy to answer any questions along the way. This was an unforgettable experience filled with incredible wildlife, amazing food, and memories we’ll cherish forever. We would absolutely recommend Eugene to anyone looking for a truly special Kruger safari!

We had an amazing time on safari with Eugene guiding us. He was super knowledgeable about all the animals and birds - we saw all of the big 5 and more. He was always up before us checking the vehicle and went to bed after us clearing up the amazing braai he cooked (lots of fillet steak, chicken and boerewors). I would recommend Eugene to anyone looking for an expert guide who handles the whole experience with chilled vibes!

Your guide, Eugene

Hey, I am Eugene Booysen, owner and I'll be the person behind the wheel and guide you throughout your Kruger experience. I grew up not too far from Kruger and the bush have been part of my life as long as I can remember.

I've also spent time working at lodges and in other parts of Africa, where I developed my own approach to guiding and hospitality. I believe guests should have the freedom to enjoy the bush in their own way, without feeling like they are being rushed.

My role is to guide you, read the bush, make the decisions when needed, and hopefully share some of the excitement I still feel every time I head out into Kruger.

I'm here to share a place that has become a part of me, and hopefully leave you with a feeling that you've connected with Kruger too.
